Abstract:
Music and visual art are two of the most established forms of entertainment of mankind. Music
serves to entertain through the ears, while art pleases one’s sight. Consequently, when music
and visuals are presented together, the seeing and listening experiences are combined to
create a new and greater effect. The music videos of modern society are proof of it. But how
exactly does music and visuals interact with each other?
The objective of this thesis is to explore the relationship between music and visuals, and how
modern artists take advantage of it in the creation of their works. The knowledge gained from
this study will be utilized in making the practical part of my diploma, which is going to be a
music video. In this thesis, I am going to research the history of music and visuals together, with
an inclination towards music video development. Then, I will analyze several successful
contemporary music videos to see how they complement their respective songs. The final
chapter of the thesis will detail the process of making my music video as the practical part of
my diploma.
