Abstract:
This thesis describes the research and implementation
of different ways to conduct data-based driven
surveys in the Unity 3D Engine using virtual reality (VR)
technologies. The work is intertwined with the creation
of a larger framework for scientific research in the field
of physiology and psychology. The requirements for this
VR survey platform have been collected based on iterative
communication with developers and researchers concerning
their research goals. According to the analysis of
requirements and technologies the platform was built using
the C# programming language with SQLite database.
As a result of the development process, the platform went
over three major stages of iteration which made use of
different concepts of collecting, storing, and data management.
To complement each platform different versionindependent
applications were created. Each conceptual
solution was evaluated using a participatory design approach,
i.e. in direct cooperation with developers and research
staff after use in scientific experimental pretest
conditions. Feedback was gathered to contribute to the
development of such research surveys directly in VR, as
a part of a larger XR framework developed by XR Lab
PJAIT.
