dc.description.abstract The goal of this thesis is to explore the role of silence in a dialogue. Furthermore, the present work argues that silence is an essential non-verbal element in storytelling. For this purpose, silence as an act of communication was interpreted according to Roman Jakobson’s communication theory, examining its various connotations in conveying a message. Moreover, the potential of silence as a narrative component was investigated by analyzing different animated movies where silence had a prominent role. The selection of animated films varied in the approaches they have applied while implementing silence into scenes. pl_PL
