Abstract:
In my paper, I attempted to define the notions of street art, graffiti, and indicated
their social functions. The second chapter focuses on the terminology of urban culture
and the reasons for their representatives. The third part of my work is devoted to the
history and genesis of this phenomenon. In the fourth stage, I emphasize the differences
between the art exhibited on the street, vandalism and ‘Street Art’. Next, I reflect upon
the function of this trend, with the emphasis on its decorative and informative character.
In the last phase of my work, I indicate the elements that make up the image of street
artists and their work. Moreover, I stress the existence of a conflict between the radical
assumptions of these artistic urban movements and their demand and presence in the
mainstream media.
