Nowadays, the use of information and communication technologies has become more prevalent as it can offer alternative options of interactive treatment. The purpose of this paper is to analyse and discuss techniques used by the interactive entertainment media for achieving a therapeutic effect. Although similar in concept, the choice of implementing these techniques either through gameplay, design or controls, results in different outcomes. Three significantly distinct video-games have been evaluated to demonstrate these diverse approaches. As such, interactive media can be considered a more accessible and familiar alternatives to traditional forms of therapy. The leading factor which negatively influences the therapeutic experience is addiction, particularly to quick forms of relief. Game developers, should consider how to control any unfavourable aspects of utilising these techniques to improve the players experience and game design, to provide a better connection of games to real life.
