FACILITATING FIREWALLS FOR MODERN NEEDS

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to develop a sustainable rewall solution that targets smaller businesses and is shaped according to their needs, in contrast to the rewall development that is becoming more and more complex in line with the increasing needs of large companies. The target audience of the developed software is small businesses such as o ces with fewer employees, cafes, stores and restaurants that o er public wi services. Four basic principles have been determined as user-friendly, lite, updateable and free, and solutions that meet these principles have been tried to be put forward during the entire development process. The software developed is managed through a web-based control panel. It can be installed on any Red Hat or Debian based linux distro. Since only standard linux frameworks such as Net lter are used in networking operations, a structure that is always up-to-date and does not cause security concerns has been established. At every stage of the development process, low RAM and CPU usage was targeted and successful results were obtained on minimal hardware in the real environment test. In addition to easy installation and con guration, a user-friendly user experience is o ered thanks to its simple and dedicated interface design. All libraries and frameworks used are free and open source.
