The main objective of the paper was to develop a structured framework of proceedings compiling notions of paramount relevance, contributing to enhancing the database model selection processes. This support tool was developed to provide transparency and coherence throughout the several, major model evaluation phases which are intertwined together to formulate a single end result.
The paper contains reasoning highlighting the importance and potential business risks associated with implementation of misaligned database model, as well as assessment of current state of affairs revolving around constantly increasing digital data footprint across the globe, which substantiates the necessity of adequate technology adoptions. Moreover, examples of processes embedded into daily business operations that are heavily reliant on efficient data manipulation have been outlined in the example of Company X.
Following sections include comprehensive theoretical primer regarding core matters of interest behind the vast majority of database viability assessments. Major areas of relationality, data structure, workload nature and database system scalability are discussed to provide a clear understanding of emerging tradeoffs, benefits and potential pitfalls depending on the direction of pursuit.
Final two sections of the paper propose the developed framework with complementary reasoning as to its contents, potential currents of consideration, as well as business case description of operational efforts of Company X, whose approach inspired the eventual development of this structured approach. |
