VR fashion show as a cultural performance

Abstract

This master’s thesis is devoted to analysing the application of virtual reality technologies to creating and performing an online VR fashion show. Virtual reality technologies appeared several decades ago and have already gained popularity in many spheres of human activities such as education, work, communication, and entertainment. In the times of the COVID-19 pandemic, such technologies are a perfect solution for many activities which require human interaction that can be impeded by numerous sanitary restrictions. The purpose of this master’s thesis is to help fashion designers to cope with partial or total shutdowns of traditional fashion shows by providing an alternative online virtual reality solution that would allow for holding a VR fashion show and could be used during as well as after the Covid-19 pandemic. Another purpose is to trace how virtual technologies affect the fashion industry and change the nature of the fashion show as a performance. The hypothesis is that online virtual reality solutions alternative to traditional fashion shows significantly affect the fashion industry and change the nature of the fashion show as a performance.
