Streszczenie:
In 2014 26,5% of the population of the EU declared an unmet need for healthcare. This number is decreasing, yet millions of people still cannot get the help they need in the field of medicine. The main reasons are prices, long waiting lists, or the distance to the clinic. Popularising the use of AR and VR in therapy could solve a huge part of the disadvantages of the health system. In this way, patient could avoid commuting to the clinic, which can be extremely difficult for people with limited movement. Patients requiring psychotherapy will also benefit from accessibility, moreover, the access to psychotherapy could increase significantly, which nowadays is becoming more and more needed.
In this paper, I will focus on the development of AR and VR in the field of mental health. Based on the knowledge from academic papers, books, and websites, I will present the methods of conducting therapy for anxiety and phobias in extended reality. I will also consider the disadvantages of these innovative systems and the possible future of cyber-therapy.
