Application of Virtual Reality in development of creativity diagnostic tool based on Torrance’s test of creativity.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the theory that Virtual Reality has a great potential in developing a creativity diagnostic tool in a context of possibilities unachievable in the real world. Methodologically, a Literature Review was made in which sixteen sources related to VR in diagnostics, education or creative development were discussed. The review allowed to deduce the best solution to creating such applications. The theory was later implied into practice and based on the research done, a prototype of a VR creativity diagnostic tool based on Torrance’s Test of Creative Thinking was created. The process of the development was described in the methodology and later evaluated. In addition, qualitative methods were used to identify the value and potential of such a tool by analyzing test results in a given control group. The results indicated that VR has a great potential in creating a creativity diagnostic tool, however, by the lack of existing research on this topic, it has to be researched before implementing it into the real world. The tool serves its purpose as a prototype of a creativity diagnostic tool and existing functions worked perfectly and should be kept as they are now as the participants have found them clear, intuitive and controllable. However, new ideas for improvement were listed such as: automated diagnosis, more colors and tools.
