“All hope in street art”–About the potential of street artwork.

Abstract

The purpose of this research paper is to analyse an important role for street art as a tool for social awareness. The first part of the paper is focused on contemporary means of communicating messages by analyzing street advertising, posters and eponymous street art. In this part, I will also discuss the pros and cons. The second part of my dissertation will outline the beginnings of street art. Here, I will look at people’s association with street art as vandalism, the “broken windows” theory, as well as some most famous actions in the 1980s. Next, I’ll be addressing the motivation that may be present behind creating art pieces on the streets. And here, I’ll include interviews with Polish street artists. During the course of my paper, I will also refer to my own experience with street art– starting from a very early age when we used to draw with chalk on the ground. The aim of this research is to show the fantastic power of street art as a tool that motivates people to act on urgent political and social matters.
