The topic of my dissertation focuses on the mystery of the most hidden parts of the human
brain. The main purpose of the paper is to scrutinize the power of the invisible, non-conscious
states of mind. By taking a deeper look at the Surrealism art movement and its main
concepts, I explain how artists expressed their non-conscious states of mind within the
creative expression. In the paper, I will also focus on David Lynch’s two films Blue Velvet and
The Elephant Man, and through the films, I will illustrate how dreamlike states are created
in the film medium. I will also refer to a couple of podcasts created by Thomas Miller titled
Subconscious Mind Mastery, in order to present the power of the human subconscious mind
in daily, casual situations. Next, I will present a number of scientific ideas on the function
of non-conscious states of mind. In this section, I will explain the function of the human
brain, its division into two hemispheres, where one sphere is responsible for logical thinking
and the other for creative expression in our lives. |
