<title>Then and now: Evolution of Movable Books (analysis, their type, and its interactivity)</title>
<link>https://repin.pjwstk.edu.pl/xmlui/handle/186319/1239</link>
<description>Then and now: Evolution of Movable Books (analysis, their type, and its interactivity)
Miękisz, Emilia
The following paper is discussing the evolution of movable books and interactivity.&#13;
It introduces the topic and talks about why the author decided to write about this specific&#13;
subject. As the practical project of the diploma is a book for children based on the poem&#13;
“Locomotive” by Julian Tuwim, we will find therefore, a short overview or illustrations done&#13;
before. Further the topic of children’s book progresses, giving a short genesis of the book,&#13;
children’s literature and beginning of movable books for children. Later we are given short&#13;
division of books regarding the age. After that we are guided through different types of&#13;
movable books like: volvelles, flap books, paper doll books, tab books and pop up books&#13;
(showing that augmented reality is just another pop up). There is also a discussion concerning&#13;
the interactive books and how movable books can be considered as forerunners of those.&#13;
The aspect of digital devices and interactivity are analyzed, with a conclusion that in today’s&#13;
world it is not a matter of escaping the technology but rather adapting it to our needs.

<title>How technology and design can improve wayfinding systems for people with visual impairments.</title>

<description>How technology and design can improve wayfinding systems for people with visual impairments.
Ławska, Weronika Zuzanna
The main premise of this dissertation is to discuss&#13;
different ways of guiding visually impaired and&#13;
blind people in public space. Described topics&#13;
consist both of solutions already known to the&#13;
society and commonly used for many years as&#13;
well as the ones that are the result of a developing&#13;
world of new technologies. What is more,&#13;
the thesis lines out the history of wayfinding systems,&#13;
important terminology, rules of signage&#13;
placement, and the use of both typography and&#13;
colours to provide maximum readability to the&#13;
visually impaired user. The part concerning the&#13;
technological aspects focuses on solutions that&#13;
have great potential to safely guide people but&#13;
are not very familiar to users at large. The choice&#13;
of the dissertation’s topic was determined by the&#13;
need to acquaint people with the importance&#13;
of creating opportunities for everyone to move&#13;
around safely and independently and also provide&#13;
them with the tools that make it possible.

<title>How technology influences the modern world: a short study on Augmented Reality</title>
<link>https://repin.pjwstk.edu.pl/xmlui/handle/186319/1237</link>
<description>How technology influences the modern world: a short study on Augmented Reality
Kowalska, Paulina
This thesis aims at analysing the impact&#13;
of Augmented Reality technology on the&#13;
modern world and consists of three chapters.&#13;
The first one is an introduction and&#13;
outline of AR history in the 20th and 21st&#13;
century, along with a few practical examples&#13;
of AR in chosen fields. Chapter two explains&#13;
the actual Augmented Reality experience&#13;
and focuses on three case studies describing&#13;
apps that influenced the modern world:&#13;
Pokémon Go, Snapchat, and IKEA Place. In&#13;
particular, this part shows how technology&#13;
changed the way we live on a daily basis;&#13;
how it influenced our habits and everyday&#13;
activities, social interactions, and needs.&#13;
The last chapter discusses additional issues&#13;
concerning AR – how and if the virtual is&#13;
crossing legal boundaries and a forecast for&#13;
the near future. This part is followed by a&#13;
summary of the topic where all the relevant&#13;
conclusions are drawn.

<title>Modern computer technologies in the development of cartographic work’s design</title>
<link>https://repin.pjwstk.edu.pl/xmlui/handle/186319/1236</link>
<description>Modern computer technologies in the development of cartographic work’s design
Vasilyeva, Darya
The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the possibility of usage of multimedia technologies in cartography and to produce technological steps for map creation.&#13;
The following thesis is divided into five chapters.&#13;
The first chapter is dedicated to the history of cartography, its development through the centuries and the informational technologies’ impact on cartographers and their tools. The chapter gives a direct timeline of map evolution from the pre-historical times to nowadays.&#13;
The second part describes types of multimedia cartographic works, their classification according to specific parameters. This chapter brings up the problem of understanding the map’s types in the 21st century and provides theoretical and practical examples to solve it.&#13;
In the third chapter, the cartography semiotics and color are presented. These show how the map’s symbols and color can affect new cartographical samples and describe the strategies of multimedia map’s establishment.&#13;
In the fourth part, the thesis draws on the problem of web-cartography copyright and the impact of multimedia tools on the user. Stages of creation and usage of multimedia cartography, as well as possibilities of using animation, are also shown in this chapter.&#13;
The fifth part demonstrates how the author of this dissertation applies all the investigated and developed method of multimedia map creation on her own project. This chapter shows the problems, that were evoked by the lack of similar project on the market and how the author solved them. The final part of the thesis sums up all the researched data and brings it up in a new cartographical project.
